Planet of the Apes the sci-fi GOAT?

Coke vs Pepsi
Marvel vs DC
Apple vs PC

What is it about the idea of two giants battling it out that we find so enthralling we ignore all other combatants? Does RC Cola deserve no love? Is the success of Image comics meaningless? Why couldn't we give Linux a chance? No more. The line must be drawn here! Third options matter! They are important and must be recognized and praised.

Let's start in the world of science fiction where Star Wars and Star Trek dominate. They've produced countless imitators and each made more money than God. Either one is deserving of the title of greatest sci-fi franchise, but there is a another option. One that does not have the word "star" in its title. Planet of the Apes.

Planet of the Apes has never reached the financial heights of Star Wars or the sheer quantity of material the Star Trek franchise has built over the years, but it has been pretty successful both creatively and financially. Right now we're on the fourth film of what most are calling the best film reboot of all time. The first film is a classic and has one of the greatest endings in film history. The Planet of the Apes film series has a level of consisten quality that no other franchise has been able to match.

Planet of the Apes will never be the biggest or best sci-fi franchise in the world, but it's greatness can never be denied and the uniqueness of that greatness must be admired. That is why Planet of the Apes is my dark horse candidate for the sci-fi GOAT.
